vocal auditions
We are looking for spirit-filled artists who can help us communicate the good news of Jesus Christ to our church family. Holding auditions on a annual basis allows us to refresh the make-up of the praise teams, ensure that new people are given the chance to participate, and to continually evaluate a person’s skill level.
Here’s how the evaluation process takes place:
Three judges evaluate each applicant and grade them on a scale of one to five in the following areas: pitch, diction, song interpretation, the ability to sing harmony, and an overall score. Judges are made up of individuals from the Worship Ministry Leadership Team. The five scores from the three judges are added, and an average score is calculated. These scores were evaluated by the Leadership Team and after prayerful consideration, individual selections are made.
What to prepare for:
The vocal audition process contain two steps.
The first step is a solo audition with a soundtrack. Choose one song from the pre-selected material on the CD found in the audition packet, and a song of your own choosing. Audition packs are available at the church office. You will also be asked to sing a harmony part to one of the pre-selected songs. You will use a microphone and sing from the stage. Monitor speakers will be provided so you can hear yourself and the soundtrack. If you successfully complete the first part of the process, you will be notified and asked back at a later date to proceed to step two.
In step two, you will be asked to sing with the band and other singers to see how well you perform in a group situation.
Tips for a successful audition:
Communicate the song. Many people are good singers, but they lack eye contact, or are emotionless when they sing. Your presence on stage must effectively communicate the song. Memorize the words!
